The Soroptimist Live Your Dream (formerly Women’s Opportunity) Awards program is our signature service project. This award aids women who are the primary wage earners for their families and are seeking to improve their economic status by gaining additional skills, training and education. Local club recipients are eligible for consideration at the Soroptimist region level as well.
The Soroptimist Live Your Dream Awards are a terrific way to make a BIG difference in the lives of women—and their families. Although the awards address economic need and make a difference in a practical way, we know they also affect women in a personal way. Women who have received the award report an increase in self-confidence and self-esteem, and pride for being recognized for having the courage to change their lives.
Each year, across Soroptimist International of the Americas, more than $2 million in education grants are awarded to more than 1,500 women, many of whom have overcome enormous obstacles including poverty, domestic violence, and/or drug and alcohol abuse.
In our “Live Your Dream Plus” program we follow up with our awardees for three years, mentoring them to afford ongoing support both non-financial as well as financial.
The new Soroptimist global program for girls has launched! As the Soroptimist team continues its work to create sustainable, measurable change in the lives of girls in our 20 countries and territories, we are optimistic this program will help girls to reach their full potential and live their dream.
Dream It, Be It: Career Support for Girls will help girls grow up to be strong, successful, happy adults. Dream It, Be It targets girls in secondary school who face obstacles to their future success. It provides girls with access to professional role models, career education and the resources to live their dreams. Working in partnership with groups like the Wake Young Women’s Leadership Academy and The Queen’s Foundation, Soroptimist Raleigh will facilitate small group workshops or a conference to provide girls with the information and resources they want and need to be successful. The topics covered include career opportunities, setting and achieving goals, overcoming obstacles to success and how to move forward after setbacks or failures.
