Makeeko is pursuing an associate degree in medical office administration, and currently works full-time in a local hospital in patient records. She has three children, two of whom are on the autism spectrum.
Educating herself on special needs and advocating for her own children has helped Makeeko see her future goals. She intends to continue her education and earn a bachelor’s degree in early childhood intervention or sociology, and fulfill her passion for creating a needed change within the school system.
Her work supervisor writes that “Makeeko is a person of deep integrity and has a genuine desire to make a positive impact on the world. She understands that education is the key to not only improving her own life but also providing her children with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed. By receiving this scholarship, Makeeko would be one step closer to achieving her academic and professional goals, and in turn, ensuring a brighter future for her family.”
