Alexis is a certified nursing assistant with nearly two decades of healthcare experience and many years as a devoted mother and grandmother. She plans to begin the LPN program at Alamance Community College in Spring 2026 and complete it by December 2026. After earning her LPN, Alexis intends to earn an associate degree in nursing and ultimately become a registered nurse. Her goal is to build a stable career that allows her to keep learning, take on greater responsibility in patient care, and create a better life for her family.
A single parent of three, including one child with developmental delays, and a grandmother to a grandchild with autism, Alexis has faced homelessness, emotional abuse, and ongoing financial hardship. Despite these challenges, she remains focused on education as her path forward. Her coursework is strengthening her skills in medical terminology, patient safety, and critical thinking while her CNA experience has reinforced the importance of teamwork, patience, and kindness.
Alexis plans to use this award to help pay for tuition, books, supplies, transportation, after-school care, and basic household needs so she can focus on her studies. For her, becoming an RN is not just a career step but a long-held dream of rebuilding and providing her family with stability and hope.
