Through the Live Your Dream Award Plus program, we stay connected with our awardees for up to three years after they receive their financial award, offering ongoing mentorship as they continue working toward their goals. Here are some recent updates from three of our 2026 awardees.
Jennifer G.
Congratulations to Jennifer, one of our Live Your Dream Award recipients, who continues to inspire us with her drive and dedication! This October, Jennifer will graduate from Alamance Community College with her Associate of Arts degree. She plans to continue her education next fall at UNC-Greensboro, where she’ll pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health. Jennifer works as a school healthcare technician and interpreter, all while raising her children and staying committed to her fitness. She recently competed in the Virginia Scottish Games, placing second in the caber toss! Through it all, her kids are doing great, and her determination to build a better future for her family continues to shine.
Mayra
Mayra is now a few weeks into her fall semester as a third-year transfer student, balancing three online courses with full-time work and raising her family, including her daughter who just started 7th grade. Despite the busy schedule, Mayra is taking things one week at a time and staying focused on her goal of becoming a licensed clinical social worker. She’s also proud to share that her 18-year-old son is developing valuable skills through his job and is now considering a career as a crane operator. Mayra continues to be grateful for the Soroptimist community’s support as she balances school, work, and motherhood.
Rose
This summer, Rose completed an internship with the NC Office of Special Counsel, which provides legal representation to protect the rights of individuals in the civil commitment process. There, she helped develop resource lists for individuals in need of guardianship — meaningful work that gave her the chance to give back to her local community. Rose shared that the experience was insightful, and she’s grateful for the continued support and check-ins from the Soroptimist community as she heads into the new semester.
