Soroptimist International of Raleigh extends a heartfelt thank you to Linda Corbin, a resident of Raleigh’s Historic Oakwood neighborhood and the community’s 2025 Empress, for selecting Soroptimist International of Raleigh as her Empress Project.
Each year, former Empresses select a new Empress who embodies the qualities of public service, passionate community engagement, diplomacy, inner beauty, and selflessness. The late Elizabeth “Betsy” Farrior Buford, a beloved and prominent Raleigh resident known for her many contributions to the community, was honored as the first Empress of Oakwood.
Linda’s dedication, vision, and generosity brought neighbors together and raised almost $1,900 to support Soroptimist’s mission of providing women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.
On October 12, Linda opened her home for “Raise a Glass to Raise Awareness”, welcoming neighbors and friends for an afternoon of connection and purpose. Guests enjoyed refreshments, sipped bubbly, and learned about Soroptimist International of Raleigh from club members Pam Sinclair and Jennifer Prevatt, who shared inspiring stories about the organization’s impact and the difference the Dream Programs make in the lives of women and girls in the community.
The event featured a charming collection of vintage Lady Head vases, generously donated by Oakwood resident Adrienne Berney, alongside jewelry donated by Trina Groening and Midge Brown. Guests had the chance to shop and take home something special, knowing that all proceeds directly supported Soroptimist’s mission.
Soroptimist International of Raleigh thanks everyone who made a donation or purchase as your generosity helped make the 2025 Empress Project a success. The event reflects the power of neighbors coming together — raising a glass, raising awareness, and raising hope for a brighter future.
