Shabria is currently pursuing an associate degree in medical office administration at Wake Technical Community College studying medical coding. She is a full-time medical receptionist and single mother.
Shabria understands the importance for people to receive the quality care and attention that they need to live a healthy and fulfilling life. She has dreamed of working in healthcare since she was in middle school, and always loved being behind the scenes. Having lost both of her parents at an early age, she had no help financially and no one to turn to for guidance. This had such an impact on her as a young adult.
“But regardless of my tribulations, I strive every day to make my parents and my daughter proud, and my grade point average and determination reflect that. It would be both a blessing and an honor to be a recipient of this scholarship, and it would not be in vain.”
Upon completing this degree, her next step is to earn a bachelor’s degree in healthcare management, and eventually a master’s degree within the same field.
All of her professors had wonderful positive things to say about her and her dedication to school and her future goals.
“She has overcome a divorce and being a single mother while still working a full time job and finishing her education. She is at the top of her class and stays up long hours to study to make sure she can be the best she can to be a role model for her daughter.”
