Community Projects
Soroptimists in Service
Soroptimist members engage in service projects throughout the year with local women’s groups, nonprofits, and community organizations that share our goals of improving the lives of women and children.
Women Build of Habitat for Humanity
JobStart
JobStart is a program of the Interfaith Prison Ministry for Women designed to assist women who are coming out of prison and aspiring to become productive members of their communities. Soroptimist participates in the program by presenting life skills workshops. Workshops include how to create achievable goals, overcoming obstacles and developing a plan for moving forward.
The Green Chair Project
Many Green Chair clients are single mothers working hard to provide a safe and stable home for their children. Group volunteering lets us spend time together while helping our community. In October 2019, Raleigh Soroptimists volunteered to create festive baskets for families receiving home furnishings at the Green Chair Project during the holiday season. Baskets were filled from items donated to Green Chair.
The Women’s Center
The Women’s Center of Wake County provides homeless women daytime shelter, medical and behavioral healthcare, food, clothing and hygiene items. During our January 2020 volunteer event we assisted the center in activities including sorting clothes and placing donated toothbrushes, cotton balls, Q-Tips, and cosmetics into individual packages.
