At SI/Raleigh, we are deeply committed to our partnership with Dress for Success, a remarkable organization in Raleigh that has been integral to our mission for many years. In 2001, we opened the SI/Raleigh Professional Clothing Closet in collaboration with 18 other community clothing closets. The continual growth of the closet led us to transition it to Dress for Success Triangle in 2009. The clothing closet concept is designed to empower women in need by providing them with “new to almost new” clothing, rooted in the belief that the right attire can inspire confidence and help individuals achieve their goals and aspirations. DFS has expanded this concept into offering a complete range of career development services to women, all at no charge.
Raleigh Soroptimists have continued to volunteer with DFS in multiple ways, both as a group and individually.
Four times a year, Dress for Success opens its doors to all women, offering a wide selection of casual and professional clothing, shoes, and accessories. The enthusiastic response from the community has motivated us to dedicate 6-8 SIR volunteers to support these open house events. Our volunteers take on various responsibilities, from tidying dressing rooms and maintaining an organized space to assisting women in finding the perfect outfits and processing their purchases.
These events are truly special, leaving our volunteers invigorated and fulfilled, even after a long day of service. Just this past weekend, we celebrated a successful September sale, raising over $34,000 in revenue.
