Shanetta is pursuing her bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition from Meredith College while working part-time and raising two children.

She decided to pursue her degree after the death of her spouse. She needed to prove to herself, and to her two young children, that she could stand on her own two feet and show how one must persevere in the face of life’s challenges.

Shanetta’s goal is to become a community dietitian, working with families in underserved areas to provide better nutritional education.

This goal is very much related to her recent challenges:

“Since I was born and raised in a small town, I learned that having a sense of community was the foundation of survival. After losing my spouse a few years ago, I had to lean on that community for support. This was my catalyst to enroll in school and be a beacon of hope to others in need.”
