RALEIGH, NC – Soroptimist International of Raleigh (SIR) is pleased to announce it has selected 5 recipients—Tiffany, Amarachi (Amy), Tara, Margaret (Maggie) and Krystal—with its Live Your Dream Education and Training Awards for Women. Each awardee received a $2,000 cash grant and will be honored at an awards luncheon on Saturday, March 25.

To be eligible for the Soroptimist Live Your Dream: Education & Training Awards, the applicants must serve as the financial head of household and be enrolled in an educational or training program intended to further their career aspirations. Our awardees this year reflect a variety of interests and goals. Tiffany is raising two children as a single parent and pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business administration at UNC Pembroke. Amy is a single mother enrolled in the practical nursing program at Durham Technical Community College. Tara is pursuing an associate degree in medical administration at Bryan University, working full-time and raising her twelve-year-old son and nine-year-old daughter. Maggie is supporting two children while pursuing an associate degree in surgical technology at Durham Technical Community College. A pre-school teacher for 23 years, Krystal is working towards her associate degree in early childhood education at Stanly Community College.

The Live Your Dream awards program is unique in that recipients may use the cash grant to offset any costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education—such as books, childcare, tuition and transportation. Since 1989, Soroptimist Raleigh has granted over $93,000 to women in our local communities. Soroptimist International of Raleigh is a local club of Soroptimist®, a global volunteer organization dedicated to improving the lives of women by providing access to the education and training needed to achieve economic empowerment. Soroptimist distributes more than $2.8 million in education grants each year, aiding more than 1,700 women to overcome roadblocks on their way to a better future.
